International Alert is requesting Expressions of Interest from qualified and experienced specialists for a six month assignment in Nairobi, Kenya, beginning February 2nd 2015 – with the strong likelihood of at least a 12 month extension thereafter.
The main purpose of the role is to support the establishment of International Alert’s Kenya / Somalia programme – with particular focus on programming around promoting conflict-sensitive extractive sector development. The role will champion Alert’s approach in the sector, which relies on multi-stakeholder constructive engagement (involving communities, civil society organisations, public authorities, and companies).

The Senior Programme Officer will also provide other administrative and logistical support to establishing International Alert’s physical presence in Nairobi – including inter alia supporting registration and potential recruitment of other positions.
Location: Nairobi with travel to the region – including Somalia
Duration: 6 months with the probability of extension
Start date: 2nd February 2015
