The rainforest is a home, a habitat, a shelter, a pharmacy, a supermarket and an ecosystem that supports many lives and livelihoods. For the indigenous people and animals that inhabit it, the rainforest is everything. Yet most forest dependent people are unable to defend the lands on which they live from forest destruction, land theft and resource exploitation. The Rainforest Foundation UK aims to change this.
Starting in January 2018, Rainforest Foundation UK is implementing a project funded by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), which aims to facilitate community-level participatory mapping and participatory land use planning (LUP) activities in two administrative units (‘secteurs’) in the province of Maniema, DRC. The project will build on previous RFUK interventions in Maniema and will undertake participatory mapping and LUP work across the entire secteur of Balanga, and participatory mapping of the entire secteur of Bangengele. The project aims to cover an estimated 58 villages in Balanga and 33 villages in Bangengele by August 2019.
Rainforest Foundation UK is recruiting a lead consultant to manage and coordinate the mapping and LUP work at the field level in DRC. The consultant(s) will be based in DRC and will set up a temporary office in Kindu (Maniema province).
Please download the full call for tender - available in English and in French for more information about the consultancy. Candidates should submit a detailed CV and proposal outlining:
- The approaches and methods you would use for participatory mapping and LUP work at the field level;
- An indicative budget (including all costs for you and your team).
The deadline for applications is the 9th February 2018. Applications can be submitted in either French or English.
Please send applications to jobs@rainforestuk.org, and include your name and ‘Consultancy: Maniema’ in the subject of your email.
