The chapters from Governance, Natural Resources, and Post-Conflict Peacebuilding (2016) are now available online free-of-charge. Edited by Carl Bruch, Carroll Muffett, and Sandra S. Nichols, the book is the sixth volume in a six-volume series on Post-Conflict Peacebuilding and Natural Resource Management.
The book seeks to enforce the mutually reinforcing relationship between good governance and natural resource management, highlighting that proper resource management helps bolster rule of law, while good political governance is necessary to ensure that resource management meets the needs of a post-conflict society.
The case studies in the book examine what constitutes good natural resource governance, and how it should best address the cultural, social, economic, and political dimensions of post-conflict environments. The chapters examine the theory, practice, and reality of post-conflict governance and natural resource management in fifty countries. Some of the key issues addressed include negotiating peace agreements, implementing humanitarian assistance, and developing legal frameworks.
The book was published by Routledge Press, and produced by the Environmental Law Institute (ELI), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the University of Tokyo, and McGill University. Contributing authors include researchers, diplomats, military personnel, and practitioners from intergovernmental, nongovernmental, and governmental organizations. Carl Bruch is the Director of International Programs at ELI, Carroll Muffett is the President of the Center for International Environmental Law, and Sandra Nichols is a governance expert at the European Forest Institute.
