NRC started operations on Chios in mid-October 2015 and has since directly assisted over 70,000 refugees and migrants, working together with the Greek authorities, humanitarian actors and volunteers to set up and maintain a dignified and efficient flow of refugees from arrival at the beach, via registration and reception facilities, to departure by boat or plane to mainland Greece.

NRC is looking for one experienced Food Security Project Manager to be based in Chios. Under the supervision of the Area Manager, She/he will be responsible for the implementation of all food security activities through partnership or direct implementation. The project is starting up and growing rapidly so we need dynamic and result driven person. The successful candidates have a strong experience in start-up of activities and in implementing food security projects

Job description

  • Overall management of the food security team in Chios
  • Adherence to Food Security tools and handbooks and other NRC policies
  • Contribute to the development of Country, Area and Food Security strategies, and suggest and participate in development of relevant food security projects
  • Coordinate and manage the food security project implementation (activities, budget and project documentation) in line with proposals, strategies and donor requirements
  • Implement technical direction and ensure high technical quality of projects, and providing regular reports to the Area Manager and the Food Security Adviser
  • Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need, and explore and asses new and better ways to assist
  • Develop and manage project budget (in cooperation with Cs), and coordinate across Cs
  • Ensure capacity building of project staff and transfer key skills
  • Liaison and collaborate with relevant local authorities and stakeholders
  • Promote the rights of IDPs/returnees in line with the advocacy strategy
Qualifications Generic professional competencies:
  • Minimum 4 years of experience from a senior level project implementation position in a humanitarian/recovery context (work related experience in the migration crisis is an asset)
  • Experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Technical Food Security expertise
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal
  • Valid driver’s license


Context/ Specific skills, knowledge and experience:
  • Knowledge of the context in Greece
  • Knowledge of Greek, Arabic, Farsi, Pachtoune languge is an asset
  • Experience with startup, exit or similar

Duty Station: Chios Island
This is an unaccompanied post/non family duty station, with shared accomodation
