The REACH Programme is a 7-year, £15m programme funded by the UK’s Department for International Development (DfID). This project, led by the University of Oxford, involves a research consortium of global leaders in water science, policy and practice. It aims to improve water security for 5 million poor people in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia by 2022. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an ambitious research programme and global science-practitioner partnership working to deliver significant benefits for people living in poverty.
This role reports to Dr Rob Hope and Dr Katrina Charles. Working with colleagues in the Department for Politics and International Relations, the School of Anthropology and Museum Ethnography, Socio-legal Studies, and the Department of International Development, the postholder will lead applied and theoretical work linking social, legal or political dimensions of water security and poverty in the REACH programme. This will include day-to-day supervision for junior research staff and close collaboration with interdisciplinary research staff. The postholder will be responsible for qualitative methodologies and analysis in the REACH Observatories and associated Partnership Funding within the global research programme. The role will involve significant overseas travel.
The successful candidate must have a relevant PhD/DPhil with post-qualification research experience in sociology, anthropology, political sciences, law or related field. The postholder will have a strong publication record, appropriate for career stage, and be familiar with the existing literature and research in the field. Experience in field research in challenging environments is essential, ideally in Africa and/or Asia.
