Global Witness’ Land and Environmental Defenders Campaign aim is for ‘defenders’(including communities, activists, lawyers, journalists, civil society organisations and indigenous people) working on environmental and land rights to be able to carry out their work without fear of killing, persecution, intimidation or threats to their lives, families or colleagues.

We are seeking an exceptional and experienced Campaigner on Land and Environmental Defenders who has a demonstrated ability to have impact and enact change.

The Campaigner on Land and Environmental Defenders will work together with the Senior Campaigner on investigations into governance causes behind killings of defenders as well on advocacy to increase protection and accountability for victims.

The role will involve field-based research and advocacy trips to target countries as well as close collaboration with local civil society groups. Latin America is a key region for the work so proficiency in Spanish is essential. The campaigner will also work across teams on providing policy positions on defenders-related issues and on making submissions to international human rights-related processes.
