Sudan/South Sudan/Abyei: Sudan Reiterates Sovereignty over Disputed Abyei Region

Sudan’s permanent envoy to the United Nations Omer Dahab called on South Sudan government to engage with Khartoum and the African Union seriously to speed up the formation of administrative institutions in the disputed Abyei region. Speaking before the UN Security Council’s session on the Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) on Wednesday, Dahab said “Abyei will remain an integral part of the Sudanese national territory”, stressing the Sudanese government will exercise its full sovereignty over the area.
