Nigeria: Nigeria Delta Avengers Say Oil Rich Region Could Break Away

A Nigerian militant group, which has claimed a string of attacks on oil pipelines in the Niger Delta, said on Thursday the region might break away. The Niger Delta Avengers had vowed to cripple the Nigerian economy by bringing the oil production of the country to zero unless its demands are met. The Avengers, who say they are fighting for a greater share of oil profits, an end to pollution and independence for the southern region, have told oil firms to leave the Delta before the end of the month.
