As a country of major ecological importance, and recognising that the environment in which people live is essential for health, wellbeing and recovery from crisis, WWF is more committed than ever to continuing its work in Myanmar. We are now seeking an experienced, dedicated and strategic professional to lead our Freshwater programme and keep Myanmar’s rivers free-flowing.
Major Functions
The Freshwater Programme Officer is expected to support programme planning and delivery of activities across the programme portfolio, both technically and administratively.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the Freshwater Programme Manager and rest of the WWF Myanmar conservation team to develop projects and implement activities, particularly related to promoting free-flowing rivers, sustainable fisheries and dolphin conservation, nature-based solutions, private sector water stewardship and other relevant areas as per the Freshwater Strategy of WWF-Myanmar.
- Collaborate with implementing partners, especially local CSOs, NGOs and grassroots organizations, to ensure high quality delivery of activities.
- Provide technical input to freshwater and hydropower related technical products and activities that WWF Myanmar is involved in.

Requirements
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in water resource management, environmental or conservation management, development studies, or in relevant fields
- At least 3 years of working in water resources related field
- Experience in project administration and management
- Experience in working with local CSOs, NGOs and grassroots communities is considered preferable
- Fluency in written and spoken English and Burmese is required
- Thorough understanding of socio-economic, hydropower and development issues in Myanmar
- Knowledge of the policy/institutional context related to water management in Myanmar
- Experience in working with the hydropower sector is considered preferable
