The Program Assistant (Governance/Legal and Economics): is a newly created role at NRGI, that will provide administrative, program management and research support to the Legal and Economic and Governance teams.
The role is a great opportunity for a research and administrative professional, with some experience already, to expand their skills and gain exposure to a leading international not-for-profit working on natural resource governance with operations and stakeholders across more than 15 countries. If this role is hired in the U.S., this position is classified as Non-Exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Key responsibilities
You will lead on meeting preparation and execution for regular team meetings and with external event organizers.
You will schedule meetings and assist with the substantive preparation of materials for meetings. You will take detailed meeting notes and summarize key takeaways. You will follow up with participants to organize next steps, at the direction of the Director of Governance Programs and Director of Legal and Economics Programs.
This role will carry out research assignments and contribute to monitoring, evaluation and learning reports and communication materials that will advance thematic team efforts to position NRGI as a thought leader in the governance of natural resources. This will include desk research and inputs for presentations, briefs and blogs on natural resource governance and related matters.
You will provide administrative support for the Director of Governance Programs and Director of Legal and Economics Programs, aiming to proactively identify administrative needs.

You have excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work across a team of multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural backgrounds to support the delivery of research and administrative tasks for the Governance and Legal and Economics Programs.
You possess the ability to work under pressure, taking action and getting things done, both in managing their own workload and as a team player.

Experience required:
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience, ideally gained within a non-government or international development organization.
- Experience working with international organizations or non-government organizations with different time zones preferred.
- Experience of working on research projects and conducting desk and policy analysis research.
- Experience of managing budgets and tracking expenses.
- Experience of working with information management systems is strongly preferred.
- Excellent skills in written and spoken English. In addition, fluency in Spanish and/or French would be advantageous.
- Preferably experience working in a matrixed environment and collaborating with staff across different cultures and time zones.
Required software expertise:
- Microsoft packages: PowerPoint, Excel and PowerPoint
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelors level degree is essential, with demonstrated academic experience in international relations or development, political economy or related fields.
- An interest in academic research is desirable
