The World Wide Fund for Nature is an international non-governmental organization founded in 1961 that works in the field of wilderness preservation and the reduction of human impact on the environment.

Background of consultancy assignment/project

The impact of the current political situation, as well as the COVID-19 pandemic, has prompted WWF Myanmar to adjust its programmes and the organisation’s standard operating procedures (SOPs). 

 
As a country of distinct ecological importance, and recognising that the environment in which people live and work is essential for health, wellbeing and recovery from crisis, WWF is committed to continue its work in Myanmar. With the background of this, we are seeking applications for undertaking security and risk assessment and risk management planning that will improve our ability to manage risks and maintain security and safety for our staff, partners and operations. 

 
The overall objective of the consultancy is to conduct a safety and security assessment in Myanmar and to develop appropriate measures and overall management plan to reduce risks for WWF staff, partners and operations within the country. WWF Myanmar wants to ensure security protocols meet and exceed mandatory standards. This exercise will inform donors and other stakeholders of the impacts to projects and the risk mitigation measures taken by WWF Myanmar.
 

The assignment is expected to take two months from the time of signing of the contract, with possible extension.

Expected Profile / Qualification and Expertise
 

  • Advanced degree in international relation/peace building/security or other security related fields.
  • Knowledge and expertise risk management, security assessments, risk mitigation planning.
  • Practical experience in security consultancy and security contingency designs for NGOs working in fragile/conflict areas.
  • Experience in the design and planning of risk management and security assessments.
  • Experience on facilitating training and ability to teach basic personal safety and security awareness, preparedness and response.
  • Proven ability to write and present safeguarding and security issues for a non-specialist audience with excellent English writing and verbal skills.
