The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations is a specialized agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger and improve nutrition and food security.
Organizational framework
The overall objective is to support the FAO in its Technical Cooperation program for the country, contributing to its positioning as a dynamic and modern organization in the elimination of hunger and rural poverty, in the promotion of agriculture, fishing , animal husbandry and sustainable management of the natural resource environment for the benefit of vulnerable rural communities and populations.
Hierarchical position
The consultant will work under the general supervision of the FAO Representative in the Central African Republic, the direct supervision of the Program Officer with the support of the Project Manager and the project coordination committee, and in close collaboration with relevant units of the FAO sub-regional office for Central Africa (SFC) and the FAO Regional office for Africa (RAF) and FAO Headquarters (Headquaters / HQs)
Tasks and responsibilities
The Consultant Agroeconomist Specialist in women's empowerment will be responsible for the various tasks described below:
- Make an inventory of the groundnut, corn and paddy sectors in the project's areas of influence;
- Draw up a map of the actors intervening in the targeted sectors as well as their strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and constraints;
- Conduct a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the roles and responsibilities, needs, interests and concerns of men and women in all stages of the value chains (production, conservation, storage, labeling, financing, transformation and marketing, etc.);
- Propose concrete strategies for growth in agricultural productivity;
- Propose strategies targeted by types of actors and transversal, to translate into concrete actions to improve the situation of women in the areas of influence of the project.
Applications will be considered with regard to the following criteria:
Minimum requirements
- Be a national of the Central African Republic or resident in the country with a work permit;
- University degree (at least Bac + 5) in Agroeconomics, Agronomy or in other equivalent fields;
- Minimum 5 years of experience in project management and / or agricultural development;
- Working knowledge of French. Knowledge of English is a great asset;

- Good experience in the field of agricultural advocacy and more specifically in the development of agricultural advocacy strategies.
- Ability to plan, organize tasks and coordinate the activities of a working group.
- Good analytical and conceptual skills and be gender sensitive;
- Good communication, analysis and writing skills;
- Good teaching and communication skills: Ability to express ideas and concepts clearly and concisely in written and oral form;
- Good computer skills. Knowledge of "Word and Excel" software is mandatory;
- Experience in strategic and operational planning, RBM approach including monitoring and evaluation methods;
- Experience with the United Nations system is an advantage.
