Chemonics International, Inc. is a private international development consulting firm. Chemonics seeks a Colombia country manager for the anticipated USAID-funded South America Regional Initiative for Transnational Conservation Crimes program, based in Peru, with a regional focus on the Amazon Basin. The program will support collaboration and innovation among governments, the private sector, and civil society across the six Amazon Basin countries to address conservation crimes and cross-border trade in illegal natural resource commodities and to enhance incentives for licit Amazon supply chains. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.
Responsibilities include:
- Direct, supervise, and provide strategic analysis of and reporting on program activities and operations in Brazil to ensure the project achieves its objectives
- Liaise with stakeholders in Brazil and counterparts in other Amazon Basin countries to ensure the application of approaches and delivery of results across the region
- Serve as a senior advisor and report to the chief of party
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in international development, environmental law, natural resource management, public administration, business administration, finance, public policy, or a related field
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in public administration, natural resource management, supply chains, commerce, or data and information management with demonstrated field experience advancing national and regional efforts to combat transnational conservation crimes in the Amazon Basin; an equivalent mix of experience and education will be considered
- Knowledge of regional, national, and international frameworks for countering transnational conservation crimes in the Amazon biome
- Hands-on experience working with domestic and international stakeholders, including rural communities, to increase incentives for legal Amazonian supply chains and reduce demand for illegal commodities
- Deep understanding of the opportunities and barriers to investigating, preparing judicial cases on, and adequately sanctioning environmental crimes in the Amazon biome
- Proven experience navigating complex and high-pressure operating environments
- Strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing
- Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
- Fluency in Spanish and English; knowledge of Portuguese preferred
