The focus is on promoting green economy within national policies and sustaining and protecting biodiversity and ecological connectivity. WWF works with key finance sector players to drive business change, advocate for policy shifts towards sustainability, develop best practices and standards, and support innovative financial frameworks and mechanisms. Major Function

The WWF-Myanmar Wildlife Programme Manager will lead the overall implementation of all WWF’s wildlife conservation work, including landscape-scale biodiversity surveys, wildlife protection including elephant anti-poaching initiatives, efforts to reduce illegal wildlife trade, and protected area management across the DTL and priority sites within the new Ayeyarwady River Landscape (ARL). He/She will act as the key Wildlife Focal point for engagement with the global WWF network and will serve as WWF Myanmar’s tiger focal point and overall lead for our tiger recovery initiatives.

Major Responsibilities

  • Manage overall wildlife programme
  • Lead tiger recovery initiatives
  • Manage elephant anti-poaching work
  • Identify strategic conservation opportunities across Myanmar working with the GoM, KNU and NGOs, CSOs

Requirements

  • Master’s or higher degree or other relevant qualification in zoology, biology, wildlife conservation, or related fields
  • Expertise in tiger and elephant ecology, science, and practical conservation measures
  • At least 10 years of practical experience as a field biologist in Myanmar and/or mainland Asia, and especially in designing and undertaking wildlife and other biodiversity surveys, conducting training, and publishing results to a high scientific and peer-review standard
  • Experience in donor liaison, fundraising, proposal writing for large projects an asset
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
