GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:

The Food Security and Livelihoods Coordinator provides day-to-day oversight and strategic leadership on the development and implementation of RIs' FSL and Environment programming in Upper Nile, South Sudan. This involves management of all aspects of the program, including recruitment and performance management, assessments, designing, planning, implementation, monitoring, capacity building of local staff, reporting and technical support to RIs’ FSL staff. Position will require a representational role with peer organizations, local communities, local authorities, and donors.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Oversee the timely delivery of the projects according to proposal and ensure compliance with all donor requirements.
  • Take lead in the development of FSL and Environment indicators and relevant monitoring and evaluation instruments and provide real time technical advice to project staff through direct regular field visits.
  • Contribute to the design of new proposals and budgets for livelihoods related activities.
  • Establish linkages and facilitate collaboration across relevant sectors, agencies and all stakeholders working with the targeted community.
  • Strengthen and promote community engagement processes in the project areas, particularly identifying project beneficiaries, assessing their needs and addressing and resolving community issues.
  • Perform and document regular monitoring of all project activities in close coordination with the project team.
  • Identify and build on successful practices in achieving improved natural resource management at the community level;
  • Communicate and coordinate with project staff on technical questions related to natural resource management (NRM) and forestry, work planning and program implementation; Provide technical support to developing policies, strategies and plans related to, NRM, and forestry;
  • Ensure a safe working environment for all people involved in project implementation and maintain the highest standards of behavior when working with the project beneficiaries.
  • Adherence to all organizational policies and procedures as outlined in RIs’ policies and procedure manuals.
  • Conduct him/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to RI and not to jeopardize its humanitarian mission.
  • Any other duties as assigned from time to time.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Postgraduate qualification in discipline related to agricultural economics, development economics, agriculture, food security, Natural resource management, Environmental studies or other relevant discipline or commensurate work experience in lieu of postgraduate qualification.
  • At least 4 years of international experience in Food Security and Livelihoods programing
  • Experience and/or advanced understanding of Micro-Finance support services in IDP/refugee settings, SMEs development, Environment and Energy, Agri-Nutrition and Crop agronomy. 
  • Experience in staff management and management in a cross-cultural environment; budget management experience
  • Experience designing curriculum for Food Security and livelihoods related trainings and capacity building activities; demonstrated training and facilitation experience
  • Ability to work under pressure, strong interpersonal, intercultural and communication skills
  • Outstanding communication skills – written and spoken.
  • Have strong problem solving abilities and capacity to solve complex issues related to project’s delivery.
  • Detail orientation and ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
