The Water Resources and Creeks Development Department of Magway Region, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, is building diversion weirs across the regions rivers to protect villages from eroding embankments and floods. The weirs are being built at a cost of nearly Ks 1.5 billion, which will be taken from the Special Find of Magway Region. The villages in question flooded twice in 2015, leading some to be relocated. However, some villagers cannot move due to their current proximity to their farmlands.
