Afghanistan: Afghanistan’s MAIL Backs Copper Extraction at Aynak Mine: Opportunities and Challenges

The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) in Afghanistan has voiced its backing for the extraction of copper at the Aynak mine in Logar province, one of the largest mines in the country. The ministry’s support was articulated by acting minister Ataullah Omari, during a meeting with the Chinese MCC company, which inked a contract back in 2008 to extract over 6.8 billion cubic meters of copper from the Aynak mine.
