Myanmar: Value of Seized Illegal Timber Rising Yearly

The value of illegal timber seized by the government over the past five years have grown exponentially, according to latest government data, raising fears of massive unabated illegal logging in the country’s fast dwindling forest reserves. The Myanma Timber Enterprise (MTE), the sole government enterprise responsible for the cutting and export of timber, said the value of illegal timber seized by the government skyrocketed to K15.14 billion last year from just K168.51 million in 2013.
