The Committee of Permanent Secretaries (CPS) of the Inter-Governmental Agency for Development (IGAD)'s Conflict Early Warning and Response Mechanism (CEWARN) will convene on Thursday in Sarova Mara Game Camp in Kenya to deliberate on beefing up regional cooperation on conflict prevention and peace building. CEWARN is a specialized unit of IGAD that uses data and analysis for conflict early warning and response towards prevention and mitigation of violent conflicts.
While CEWARN's operations since its establishment in 2002 had a specific focus on cross-border pastoral and related conflicts, in September 2012 member states decided to expand its focus to cover a wide spectrum of conflict types and geographic areas.
