The UNOPS Peace and Security Centre (PSC) is a principal service provider in the field of mine action with the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), UNDP, UNICEF, Governments of mine-affected countries and other mine action partners. The Centre is responsible to administer, provide support and oversight of the day-to-day management of the Project Field offices, both according to the client requirements and in line with UNOPS rules and regulations. 

It is headed by the Centre Director who has the overall authority and accountability for the performance of the Peace and Security Centre on behalf of its clients. 

Functional Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Information Management Officer, the Information Management Associate , will be responsible for the following functions: 
  • Compile programme and mine action sector with statistics and information regarding explosive hazard threats to support operational prioritization and planning;
  • Assist with the maintenance, servicing and development of the IMSMA centralised mine action database for Syria, and associated reporting mechanisms and tools;
  • Assist with the verification and recording of all field data from implementing partners into the UNMAS database;
  • Perform quality assurance checks on reported data before, during and after data entry;
  • Compile statistics for monthly report as directed by the Information Management Officer;
  • Assist in creation and maintenance of comprehensive soft and hard archive system on a weekly basis;
  • Review and update official forms as per the need of field activities in consultation with the Chief of Operations and Information Management Officer;
  • distribute of official forms to operations and implementers in consultation with the Chief of Operations and Information Management Officer;
  • Assist in preparation and printing of informative maps with mine action and other available data;
  • Maintain and contribute to the operations mapping archive;
  • Assist with the successful implementation of the standard working procedures for IT and information management to include the development of procedures, guidelines and manuals;
  • Compile Geographic Data from a variety of sources upon request ;
  • Review and promulgate all UNMAS produced explosive hazard related documentation to include monthly statistics, presentations and reports;
  • Support synchronizing all data between the  main server and other databases;
  • Compile statistics, maps, charts  as required by Operations and Programme departments;
  • Assist with IT/Database training and technical assistance to UNMAS staff, implementing partners and external stakeholders as needed in the use of the Database & GIS where necessary;
  • Create photo catalogue from received photos from mine action activities;
  • Assist with IT and related general computer related issues;
  • Ensure that the partners and external stakeholders have access to accurate explosive management information products;
  • Perform any other relevant task assigned by supervisor or senior management.

Education and Relevant Years of Experience:

  • First-level University degree (Bachelors or equivalent) in IT, Data Processing, or any other related field with three (3) years of relevant experience or
  • Secondary school (High School Diploma or equivalent) with a minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience 
Work Experience: 
  • Relevant experience is defined as experience in IT, data processing or related field
  • Computer literacy is required
  • Experience in network administration is desired
  • Experience in data management and database design is desired
  • Experience with the use of UN/UNOPS rules and regulations is desired
  • IMSMA Administrative training is desired
  • Experience in topographical map reading is desired
  • Experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and analysis is desired.
Language:
 
  • Fluency in English (writing, speaking and reading) is required
  • Fluency in Arabic  (writing, speaking and reading) is required
  • Knowledge of another UN official language is desired.

  • This is a local position, therefore only nationals of the duty station will be considered.
