Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) is one of the largest aid organisations in the Nordic region. We are there in disasters and emergencies to provide water and critical assistance to those affected. Together with our international network and partner organisations in the ACT Alliance we are able to reach millions of people each year and help make a positive difference around the world. We are determined to work towards eradicating injustice and we therefore work passionately with advocacy, long-term development in local communities and providing emergency assistance. As we see more and more people impacted by disasters, we now have an even stronger focus on providing more people with emergency relief and access to clean water. We believe that people in need must be helped and we will not stop fighting for a just world. NCA is seeking a new Country Director who will be responsible for NCA's operations in Sudan, with operational areas in South Kordofan and Darfur. The Country Director is the senior management person responsible for the strategic leadership of NCA's office and Country Programme, which currently has 13 staff at the office and 110 field staff. We are looking for a candidate that has solid leadership experience managing development aid and humanitarian assistance programmes in challenging environments. NCA's main programmes in Sudan include Economic empowerment, humanitarian assistance and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH).
The position is based in Khartoum, which is a family duty station. This is a three year contract with a May 2018 start date.

Job description
- Responsible for the operational management of NCA's office in Sudan, which includes overseeing the finance, human resource and administration function.
- Provide strategic leadership to NCA's Country Programme in Sudan and work to further develop the Programme in line with NCA’s priorities and strategies.
- Responsible for representing NCA and proactively building and strengthening NCA's working relationships in Sudan with embassies, donors, partners, government authorities and other stakeholders.
- Work to identify and secure new sources of income and funding opportunities to help diversity and strengthen the funding-base.
- Responsible for ensuring proper safety and duty of care management across NCA's operations in Sudan.
- Help develop and support NCA's collaboration with partner organizations in Sudan, which includes capacity building and professional development.
Qualifications
- Solid leadership experience in international relief and development programs, including demonstrable success in managing (large, complex, transitional) development programs.
- Proven experience in building and developing financial management, administration and HR staff.
- Strong experience in project management, preferably from NCA or a similar organization.
- Demonstrated experience multi-tasking and success in securing funding for country programs.
- Contextual knowledge of Sudan and the region is an advantage.
- Relevant higher university degree.
- Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written.
