Generations For Peace (GFP) is a Jordan-based global non-profit peacebuilding organization dedicated to sustainable conflict transformation at the grassroots. Generations For Peace empowers volunteer leaders of youth to promote active tolerance and responsible citizenship in communities experiencing different forms of conflict and violence. Carefully facilitated sport-based games, art, advocacy, dialogue, empowerment, and media activities provide an entry point to engage children, youth, and adults, and a vehicle for integrated education and sustained behavioural change.

Purpose of the Position:

​Supervised and guided by the Capacity and Programmes Development Manager, the (Position)

  • Leads on management of the Climate Action Programme(s); With the support of the he Capacity and Programmes Development Manager, builds relationships with donors and partners;
  • leads on Programmes Department’s inputs to relevant grant proposals, presentations and reports for/to donors and partners, as well as the presentations and reports to GFP Board/General Assembly, and others, subject always to review and approval of the Programmes Manager or Programmes Director;
  • leads on the monitoring and evaluation of the programmes (with support from the Institutional Learning Team’s M&E staff in knowledge transfer, capacity-building and data analysis);
  • leads close coordination with the Communications Team on communications related to the programmes’ implementation, evaluation, and impact

Responsibilities:

Reporting to, guided and directed by the Capacity and Programmes Development Manager, the Senior Programmes Officer is responsible of leading and supervising work and capacity/professional development of assigned Programme(s) staff by:

  • liaising with the Capacity and Programmes Development Manager on their recruitment, development, and performance appraisal
  • leading weekly team meetings and regular one-on-one meetings for task tracking, execution, and reporting
  • Identifying the areas requiring further mentoring for the assigned Programme(s) staff and translating those into a specific mentoring plan to be followed on
  • Based on developed mentoring plans, providing direct support, guidance, and mentoring to Programmes Officers and Coordinators working on the assigned Programme(s), to support their capacity development and strengthen their effectiveness until such time they can, in accordance with the Organisational Ladder of Responsibility, take on direct responsibility for assigned tasks with minimal supervision
  • Leading on competency development and growth of assigned Programme(s) staff
  • Gathering programme-related feedback from assigned Programme(s) staff, making recommendations for future development of curriculum, training and learning materials or processes in Programmes Department and in HQ in general
  • Based on agreed mechanisms used across HQ, sharing, and exchanging ideas and best practices, and promoting and supporting horizontal learning across Programmes Department staff to foster continual learning and improvement of staff as well as of programmes and processes
  • Leading on daily management of GFP assigned Programme(s) based on the Annual Plan and Budget, anticipated or scheduled programme cycles, and programmatic documentation including programmatic grids and designs, curriculum, programming framework, M&E frameworks, mentoring frameworks, and other learning and feedback materials by:
  • Leading on selection of locations and Delegates for assigned Programme(s)
  • Ensuring smooth and timely execution of all aspects of programmatic activities, be it programme, communications, monitoring and evaluation or other activities
  • Driving continued assigned Programme(s) growth and innovation, greater effectiveness and quality, and increased demonstration of impact and sustainability
  • Leading on cost-effective financial management of the assigned Programme(s) including development, approval, regular monthly expenditure tracking, accounting, and reporting
  • Developing and ensuring stewardship of effective partnerships with the Local Partner Organisation(s), to support enhanced local ownership, local capacity, strengthened local administration, greater cost-effectiveness, and greater sustainability of the assigned Programme(s)
  • Leading, supported by the Capacity and Programmes Development Manager and in coordination with Fundraising and Communications Department staff, on the development and stewardship of effective relationships/partnerships with each donor, commercial partner, and media partner supporting assigned Programme(s) in assigned country(s)
  • Ensuring continuous updating of Programmes Database, in whatever required format, for assigned Programme(s)
  • Ensuring regular flow, in a pre-agreed format, of high-quality information and evidence to feed communications needs, donor reporting as well as future donor prospecting
  • Leading execution of monitoring and evaluation processes in assigned Programme(s) through application of GFP and donor’s M&E frameworks/log frames (with the support of the Institutional Learning Team’s M&E staff in knowledge transfer, capacity-building and data analysis, but not in direct execution/implementation):
  • Leading sharing of quality information, data, feedback, and evidence from volunteers/community to HQ and vice versa through mentoring sessions, reporting, horizontal learning sessions, and other means specified in the course of assigned Programme(s) implementation and evaluation
  • Providing, in a pre-agreed format, monthly reports to the Capacity and Programmes Development Manager on priorities and progress of assigned Programme(s), any problems arising, and plans for continual innovation and growth
  • Preparing general briefings for staff and other audiences on assigned Programme(s)
  • Leading on coordination of regular GFP staff and partner field visits
  • Leading the development of Programmes Department’s inputs to relevant proposals, presentations, and reports for/to donors and partners, subject always to review and approval of the Capacity and Programmes Development Manager
  • Providing, in liaison with Delegates and Pioneers on one hand and Fundraising Department staff on the other, timely inputs into development of donor proposals and grant applications, specifically with regard to programmatic conceptualisation, budgeting, measuring log frames, post-approval adjustments, local capacity-building, monitoring and reporting components, to ensure high-quality proposals are submitted on time
  • Supporting Programmes Department’s role in delivery of various types of training including Camps, Advanced Trainings, Specialised Trainings, Refresher Workshops, online trainings, etc.)
  • Leading and integrating climate-related programmes within the scope of assigned Programme(s) by:
  • Identifying and developing climate-related initiatives and projects that align with the organisation’s strategic goals and the needs of the community
  • Ensuring that climate-related components are incorporated into existing programmes and activities, enhancing their relevance and impact
  • Collaborating with stakeholders, including local communities, governments, NGOs, and international bodies, to promote and implement climate resilience and sustainability projects
  • staying updated on global and local climate policies, trends, and best practices to inform programme development and execution
  • Monitoring and evaluating the impact of climate-related initiatives, ensuring they meet established goals and contribute to overall programme objectives
  • reporting on climate-related activities and outcomes to donors, partners, and other stakeholders as required
  • Any other delegated Programmes-related tasks as prescribed by supervisor.

Education, Qualifications, Competences, Skills Required:

Essential:

  • Jordanian nationality
  • University bachelor’s degree essential, in a relevant discipline such as: Environmental studies, environmental engineering or any related degree in climate and environment is a must
  • At least four years professional experience in a related position/positions
  • Experience in leading a team of three members or more.
  • Experience in managing volunteer-led community programmes
  • Experience in environment/ Climate Action, conflict transformation and peacebuilding programmes
  • Experience in programme design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation
  • Experience establishing and developing partnerships with organisations
  • Experience in training and facilitation
  • Experience in mentoring others
  • Experience in curriculum development
  • Experience of working in a multi-cultural team
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities and work under pressure
  • Ability to reflect, learn, and improve, and experience in using feedback processes for learning
  • Excellent computer skills (documents/spreadsheets/databases/presentations/calendars/email)
  • Excellent spoken and written English and Arabic, including written programme plans and reports
  • Interest in global current affairs, conflict and peace building and international development

Preferred:

  • Masters’ Degree in a relevant discipline
  • Demonstrated knowledge of different theories of conflict transformation and social change
  • Experience in international development especially community development and behaviour change programming is useful but not essential
  • Experience in different forms of evaluation, including participatory evaluation, participatory video, most significant change, is useful but not essential
  • Experience in sport-based approaches to behaviour change is useful but not essential
  • Experience in arts-based approaches to behaviour change is useful but not essential
  • Experience in dialogue approaches for conflict transformation is useful but not essential
  • Experience in advocacy for community-led change is useful but not essential
  • Experience in event management is useful but not essential
  • Travel and experience working in other countries
