Oxfam is a global organization that fights inequality to end poverty and injustice. It offers lifesaving support in times of crisis and advocate for economic justice, gender equality, and climate action. Oxfam demands equal rights and equal treatment so that everyone can thrive, not just survive. The future is equal.

This is a 4-month mandate in Jerusalem or Ramallah, Occupied Palestinian Territory/Israel.

The mandate is under the Equality in Action Volunteer Cooperation Program (VCP), which takes place in 14 countries and 3 regions over a seven-year period (2020-2027).

The VCP aims to increase the involvement of local partners in developing countries in inclusive, innovative and sustainable development initiatives that will advance gender equality. Oxfam's role is to support these organizations, working with the most vulnerable and marginalized people, to claim and exercise their rights. Oxfam places the rights of women, girls, and vulnerable and marginalized people at the heart of everything it does.

Here's what daily life will look like:

In close collaboration with Oxfam's in-country team members, the mandate will be to:

  • Conduct a comprehensive analysis of the climate change context and impact in the West Bank and recommend interventions for Oxfam in climate change adaptation and mitigation, with focus on feminist and gender issues.
  • Conduct capacity assessment of Oxfam team and partners in terms of understanding and working towards climate justice, organise and deliver capacity building trainings on the topic.
  • Develop a toolkit and provide technical support and guidance to the team on integrating climate change considerations into their work.

Requirements for this mandate:

  • Be a Canadian citizen or have permanent resident status in Canada;
  • Have university degree in environmental studies, climate change or other relevant field;
  • Have 3 years of experience in conducting climate change assessments and analysis as well as designing and implementing climate change programs;
  • Have a good understanding of the climate change context in the West Bank and the Middle East region;
  • Be fluent in English, spoken and written (required);
  • Master the Office suite.
