About the Role:

This role is in the Gender, Water and Climate Change (GWCC) department of CSR as the Head of the department and will report to the Director, CSR. The HOD will be responsible for the overall supervision of departmental projects, which include the implementation of village-level water conservation projects as well as the promotion of gender-mainstreaming in water conservation initiatives with a range of government and institutional stakeholders. The role entails development and stewardship of partner relationships, managing a team of project coordinators, steering the development of large scale water projects, and building opportunities for future partnerships. The successful candidate will need to have an interest and aptitude for participating in technical consultations and representing the department within the industry.

Gender, water, and climate change department (GWCC):

CSR promotes women’s active participation in governance and management of natural resources, given the increasing impact of climate change. We partner with like-minded agencies and sponsors to pursue climate change mitigation. Our projects focus on a bottom-up approach in which our grassroots level interventions build the capacities of women leaders at the village-level to become agents of change in their communities. We support these leaders to create local water conservation plans and improve local infrastructure to improve groundwater resources.

Key Roles & Responsibilities: 

  1. Overseeing departmental projects, developing project ideas, and designing overall strategy
  2. Supporting and developing relationship with funding and technical partners within the industry
  3. Setting strategies to grow and position the program within climate change and water conservation programming in India.
  4. Recruiting new team members and retaining existing staff trained on water projects.
  5. Working with CSR leadership to upscale programming

Qualifications and Prerequisites: 

  1. 10 years professional experience in positions of increasing responsibility within the development sector, with experience with grass-roots environmental program management as well as training on environmental topics with diverse stakeholders
  2. Master’s Degree in environmental science or related field, Master’s Degree in a related field plus professional experience in environmental social programming
  3. Management experience water management programming, with demonstrable success in managing a team.
  4. Strategic focus and track record in developing effective technical and funding partnerships
  5. Experience of developing and managing strategic and operating plans with large, complex budgets.
  6. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet required targets and deadlines for team activity.
