The Jane Goodall Institute seeks a dynamic team member to serve as the Roots & Shoots Community Coordinator. The Community Coordinator will report to the Vice President, Africa Programs and work closely with the Africa Programs and Roots & Shoots teams to support the Roots & Shoots Community of Practice (COP) and related projects. This is a full-time position to be based in one of JGI’s Africa offices, which are: Dar es Salaam, Tanzania; Kigoma, Tanzania; Kampala, Uganda; Goma, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Pointe Noire, Republic of the Congo.

Requirements

Specific Responsibilities

  • Communicate regularly with all the Roots & Shoots COP members.
  • Coordinate all COP virtual meetings, including liaising with guests and professional development speakers, drafting and sharing the agenda, notetaking and dissemination, and assisting with technical challenges.
  • Support logistics for two in-person workshops to be held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and Kampala, Uganda.
  • Administer virtual collaboration tools being used by the COP, could include moderating WhatsApp chats, managing logins for Survey 123, among others.
  • Assist research team with data collection and coordination.
  • Assist with regular administrative tasks including processing disbursement forms, assisting with speaker and partner contracts, and purchasing and shipping supplies internationally, as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or combination of education and 2 years of relevant experience preferred, with an emphasis on coordination and collaboration.
  • Strong communication skills via telephone and email (intra- and inter-departmentally as well as externally)
  • Knowledge of and experience with international youth programs, education, and leadership development preferred.
  • Experience planning an international workshop or event, a plus.
  • Excitement for learning new software and tools.
  • Excellent time management skills, detail-oriented, problem solver
  • Collaborative working style and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Fluent in English, French and/or Swahili highly desired
  • Flexible schedule with the ability to participate in meetings with international teams during their regular business hours
  • Willingness to travel to international locations, up to 20% time with extended stays of 1-2 weeks per trip

Ability to work in a fast paced and culturally diverse, international work environment. Ability to be self-motivated, independent, and responsible for assigned workload. Location is flexible across JGI’s Africa-based offices, with remote work a possibility. Physical requirements

Job may require long periods of sitting or being stationary. International travel, up to 20%.
