WWF-Myanmar is now inviting applications for the Trainer – Sustainable Farming who will be working in May 2022 with Home-based and field travel.
Background
We are WWF, one of the world’s leading nature conservation organisations and working for nearly 60 years and have offices in 100 countries, and started the programme in Myanmar in 2014. Find out more at www.wwf.org.mm.
Worldwide, one of the major deforestation drivers have been the conversion of forests to agricultural land. While there is a growing need of increasing food production to guarantee food security, the current practices executed by Myanmar farmers offer low yields and have damaging effects in ecosystem services such as water availability and soil quality. WWF-Myanmar has been working on the development of sustainable managed agroforestry practices where farmers can develop diversified agricultural portfolios, and, via the right use of ecosystem services, the status of degraded ecosystems can be recovered and communities can improve their food security. This approach lies in the interaction among the protection of ecosystem services, the improvement of local livelihoods, and the creation of market opportunities to the farmers.
Major Functions
The main objective of the trainer is to support the agriculture team with the design and implementation of a workshop that allow local communities to engage with agroecological farming practices that are linked with agricultural calendars that both improve the food security and income of the population. The trainer is expected to have an experience in organic agriculture, including practices on organic and green fertilization, crop rotation, improving plant resistance to pests and diseases, and commercialization of agricultural projects in the implementation area. He/She is also expected to support the sustainable agricultural manager and local community in the implementation of organic farming and marketing plans in some specific areas of Dawna Tenesserim Landscape (DT).
