The Stimson Center's Environmental Security Program explores the suite of environmental threats, both human and natural, that have the potential to undermine national, regional, or global security. The Environmental Security team is currently researching the impacts of and solutions to illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, as well as distant water fishing fleets. We are also researching the impact of climate change and ocean risk on developing coastal cities. We work closely with practitioners and policymakers in the security and environmental communities to foster a dialogue and connect disparate actors to collaborate and create innovative policy solutions.
Intern responsibilities include:
- Conducting detailed research
- Writing and editing for program publications
- Coordinating program events
- Administrative support
Generally, strong candidates for this position will have the following qualifications:
- Strong interest in environmental and security policies, including relevant course work and/or work experience
- Strong research and analysis skills, including writing, editing, and fact-checking
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality work
- Flexibility to work effectively both independently, without supervision, and as part of a team
- Part-time or full-time availability (full-time preferred)
- Mandarin or French language skills a plus
Graduate and/or undergraduate students are encouraged to apply, as well as recent graduates.
