Feb 5, 2021 | Environmental Peacebuilding Association

The Environmental Peacebuilding Association (EnPAx) will be holding its Second International Conference on Environmental Peacebuilding as a hybrid event online and in Geneva, Switzerland, in February 2022, convened in partnership with the Centre on Conflict, Development and Peacebuilding (CCDP), Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies; the Geneva Peacebuilding Platform; the Geneva Water Hub, University of Geneva; and the United Nations Environment Programme. The Environmental Law Institute (ELI)—which serves as the Secretariat for the Association—is seeking event planners and interns to assist in the administration of conference activities on a pro bono (volunteer) basis. Volunteers will have the opportunity to work in a professional capacity with a wide variety of international stakeholders in the environmental peacebuilding field as they coordinate potential sessions/panels/activities and facilitate communications between the conference staff and other relevant international organizations. Specific responsibilities will shift over time, focusing first on supporting the selection of conference presentations and posters, and gradually incorporating other elements related to conference sessions, registration, and other areas.  The position will be conducted entirely remotely. Candidates should:

  • Possess superior writing and interpersonal communication skills
  • Have a strong desire to gain knowledge of the environmental field, as well as interest in natural resource management and/or peacebuilding
  • Have previous experience or a strong desire to learn more about international event planning and coordination
  • Be focused, independent, reliable, meticulous, and punctual
  • Be available to work at least 15-20 hours per week for at least 3 months
Fluency in another UN language (French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, or Arabic) is a plus. Specific environmental experience is not mandatory. Compensation is not available. Candidates are asked to commit to work for a minimum of 3 months. However, candidates who are able to commit to participation through the conference date in February 2022 should note this in their applications. Applications will be processed on a rolling basis. To apply, please submit a cover letter, resume, and 3-5 page writing sample to info@environmentalpeacebuilding.org. The writing sample may be an excerpt from a longer work. ELI is an equal opportunity employer strongly committed to achieving an inclusive, diverse workforce that values every individual. Minority candidates are encouraged to apply.
