Job brief
The Program Officer (PO), Investment and Conflict, based in Yangon, provides technical, administrative and logistical support to USIP’s programming on natural resources, investment and conflict in Burma. The PO will primarily support the development and implementation of a project that addresses the impacts of cross-border investments on conflict dynamics in Burma. Key tasks include: providing research support relevant to cross-border investments; managing partnerships, grants and contracts with local partners and researchers; supporting the implementation of trainings, dialogues and key program activities.
This is a Personal Services Contractor position.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with the Technical Expert for Research and Dialogue initiatives and the Country Director on program design and strategy;
- Organize program trainings, events and workshops. Record meeting minutes and provide read-outs as needed.
- Build and maintain good relationships with USIP partners, government departments and other organizations
- Develop partnerships with key stakeholders in the field, including civil society, government, think tanks, the private sector and other agencies.
- Support information management. This will include monitoring program activities and outputs and ensuring that data is organized and easily accessible.
- Provide support to research on specific projects; gather information and conduct relevant analysis.
- Organize and participate in team meetings, record meeting minutes and share read-outs.
- Monitor political developments in Burma, including providing regular written updates on developments relevant to cross border investment and its impact on peace.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a related field, preferably in political science, development studies, public policy or other social sciences, or extensive experience working on natural resources and conflict or a related field.
- A minimum of 4 years experience in a similar position, preferably in peace and conflict context.
- Strong knowledge of corporate governance, business and human rights, and responsible business
- Good command of English and Myanmar both verbal and written communication, Chinese language skills preferred
- Ability to travel in country as assigned by USIP leadership.
- Experience in project management, monitoring and evaluation.
- Experience working in MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint Experience working with SharePoint / OneDrive, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Planner or Microsoft PowerBI a plus.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
