Are you an experienced advocate, passionate about gender equality and climate change? Do you understand the gendered impact of the climate crisis? Are you keen to ensure women and local women’s organisations have a say in disaster prevention and response and help led the way in adapting to climate change?  Have you got experience of working with networks and coalitions to coordinate advocacy actions and deliver real, tangible change on the ground for women’s lives in some of the world’s crises? 

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for a 1-year role to support CARE UK’s campaign ‘Women on the Frontline’ to keep pressure on for ambitious action to cut greenhouse gas emissions and to put women at the heart of adaptation and response efforts.

About you 

We are looking for a Senior Advocacy & Policy Advisor to lead our Humanitarian and Gender in Emergencies advocacy work to draw on CARE’s programmatic presence and expertise in 90 countries to leverage policy change to improve the lives of millions of women worldwide.

You will need to be excited by the opportunity to deliver tangible advocacy wins working with women’s rights organisations in protracted crises, whilst also being alert to the multitude of other issues and opportunities that arise through our work, such informing MPs or UK government policy with a campaign action, working with colleagues at the UN on specific crises context like Syria and Yemen and inform our humanitarian advocacy on ‘Type 4s’ where relevant.

You will be happy to draw on CARE’s programme evidence on GBV work or GiE to dive into a meeting and bring perspectives from our partners into discussions about the Call to Action on Prevention of GBV or the UK’s Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative. Above all you want to make change happen for real women and their families and communities and you want to know you are making a difference.
