Germany: Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/d) in the Field of “Peace and Security in the Anthropocene”

The Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (PRIF) analyses the causes of international and intrastate conflicts. As one of the leading peace research institutes in Europe, we combine inter­disciplinary basic research with science transfer to the public, the media and policymakers. Since 2009, PRIF has been a member of the Leibniz Association, a national umbrella organi­zation of outstanding non-university research institutes in Germany. PRIF is head­quartered in Frankfurt and has a branch office in Berlin. More than 100 employees from research, adminis­tration and science communication contribute to PRIF's success.

 

Your responsibilities include:

 

  • Individual Research (development and implementation of projects) in the fields of ‘Anthropo­cene’ geopolitics, Earth System governance, climate security and/or environ­mental peace­building;
  • Contribution to the research efforts of the newly formed research group “Ecology, Climate, and Conflict”;
  • Participation in publications and the obtaining of external funds of the Research Depart­ment as well as partici­pation in science communication events. 

 

 

As applicant, you should fulfill the following requirements:

 

  • A very good doctoral degree (“Sehr gut” acc. to the German grading system) in political science, inter­national relations, geography or another relevant discipline;
  • A proven research focus on Earth System Governance and the ‘Anthropo­cene’, climate security, socio-ecological conflicts, and/or the environ­ment-conflict-nexus;
  • An international profile attained through publications and field research/ research stays;
  • Proven experience in quantitative and/or qualitative social science methods;
  • Willingness to work in an inter­national team of researchers;
  • Willingness and ability to further PRIF’s research agenda;
  • Willingness to work in an inter­disciplinary environment;
  • Willingness to present research to the political and general public;
  • Willingness to participate in PRIF’s self-governance. The language spoken in PRIF’s central committees is English;
  • Good spoken and written command of English.
