Myanmar: CPI Pushes for Restart of Myitsone Dam

President U Thein Sein has suspended the Myitsone Dam project until the end of his current term. Once this is over, CPI Yunnan International Power Investment Company (CPIYN) says it is hoping to restart work. The president temporarily halted the hydropower project in Kachin State in September 2011, about six months after taking office. The Myitsone Dam faced significant criticism over its environmental impact and its affect on local residents, which U Thein Sein alluded to when ordering the suspension.
