Violent conflicts between nomadic herders from northern Nigeria and sedentary farming communities in central and southern regions have increased dramatically, with armed groups of Fulani herders becoming one of the deadliest threats to civilians. The Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project estimates that armed Fulani herders are responsible for the deaths of almost 1,000 civilians this year; in comparison, the Jihadist group Boko Haram has killed over 200.
