Forces under the command of General Khalifa Haftar, a renegade general in eastern Libya, say they have seized control of key oil export facilities, dealing a blow to the UN-backed government of national accord based in Tripoli in western Libya. The fall of oil facilities roughly in the centre of Libya’s coastline deprives the Tripoli government of a vital source of revenue it had hoped to exploit after reaching an agreement in July with the Petroleum Facilities Guard, the militia which controlled the installations, to resume exports from the ports and terminals.
