Incidents of land grabbing from 2005-2014 should be investigated, Environment Conservation Trust (ECT) Director Sajeewa Chamikara said.Issuing a press communique, he said hundreds and thousands of acres of land was grabbed illegally during the period of the former regime, using political influence.He said land grabbing is not only the take over of land forcibly, but also the illegal take over of land for massive development projects compromising the environmental well being of the present and future generations.Chamikara said the country’s natural forests, which were about 20 percent at the beginning of the former regime, has depleted to 15-16 percent as at today.
