The United States has been trying to prevent the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) from obtaining oil revenue; however, it failed to convince Turkey, a destination for the black market oil, to cut off the flow, The New York Times has reported.
Western intelligence officials cited by The New York Times say they can track ISIL oil shipments as they move across Iraq and Turkey, but the US has so far not attacked the tanker trucks. However, attacking tanker trucks carrying ISIL oil “remains an option,” a senior administration official reportedly said on Friday.
