Christian anti-narcotic vigilantes in Myanmar's northern Kachin State have agreed a deal with local authorities on a bid to destroy large areas of poppy fields, the Myanmar Times newspaper reports Wednesday. Authorities will permit members of the Pat Ja San group and other supporters to clear thousands of acres of poppy fields today in Sadon and Kan Pai Tee sub-townships of Waingmaw, while police and soldiers will protect the vigilantes from any attempts to stop them by farmers.
