Thailand for the first time in over two years bought crude oil from Iraq, but the grade of the import remains unclear.
Thai customs data released Tuesday showed that the country imported 41,624 kiloliters, or 261,807 barrels, of crude from Iraq in August, the first such occurrence since July 2012.
Trade sources said state-owned PTT was not responsible for bringing in the shipment and the company has not bought any Iraqi crude in the last few years.
"It is not part of the crude slate," a source with knowledge of the matter said Wednesday.
