Three weeks ago Ivanhoe Mines announced a big deal for its Kamoa copper project in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). It signed Zijin Mining, a Chinese miner, onto a $506 million deal to help move the project – a major discovery of the past decade – along. The mines minister Martin Kabwelulu stated to media that the DRC government would have to greenlight the deal before it could go ahead.
