The jihadist Islamic State on the weekend reimposed its blockade on the Iraqi oil refinery of Biyi, in northern Saladdin province, after clashes with the Iraqi army, which had retaken control of the facility on Nov. 19.

An official with the Iraqi police told Efe that the IS launched a broad offensive on Saturday night against different stretches of the main highway passing through the Biyi center, which is located 40 kilometers (25 miles) north of Tikrit, the provincial capital.

After intense fighting with Iraqi forces, the IS managed to gain control of 5 km (3 mi.) of the highway from the area of the Fatah mosque to the Al Kuzban al Ramlia station, the police official added.
