Conflict Minerals: Canadian Conflict Minerals Bill Fails at Second Reading

Canada’s proposed conflict minerals legislation has failed at its second reading, which took place in the country’s House of Commons on Wednesday September 24.

Bill C-486: The Conflict Minerals Act would have been similar in scope to section 1502 of the US Dodd-Frank act in requiring Canadian companies to report on their use and sourcing of tin, tantalum, tungsten and gold. The bill was aimed at removing minerals affected by conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Great Lakes region from Canadian supply chains.
