The farmers have to pay Ks 2,000 (US$1.5) per acre for using water throughout the farming season, plus Ks 500 per acre for the protection against floods. Tax agents will collect annually. The government will collect Ks 9,000 per acre for pumping water into the fields for summer paddies, Ks 6,000 per acre for monsoon paddies, and Ks 3,000 per acre for any other crops.
