China has stopped land reclamation work in the South China Sea, according to foreign minister Wang Yi. Mr Wang's remarks at the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) regional meeting in Kuala Lumpur appeared designed to defuse tensions with other countries who lay claim to parts of the sea, through which $US5 trillion in ship-borne trade passes every year.
