Colombia: Opposition to Colombia’s Largest Dam Project Defends the Land, Water and Life

The Hidroituango hydroelectric dam project on the Cauca river in the northwest of Antioquia is the largest infrastructure project ever built in Colombia, and is projected to be one of the most profitable. This is probably why the local and national governments and Empresas Públicas de Medellín – the company in charge of the project – have ignored the widespread rejection of the project by the local community, as well as national and international environmental and human rights organizations.
