The residents of Tarlawgyi in Kachin state have sent a complaint to the state minister against Chinese tissue-culture banana farms, sources said. The complaint filed on October 2 claimed that some Chinese, claiming to be Myanmar nationals, had acquired land illegally for banana and watermelon plantations in April. The residents said they had asked the authorities on April 3 to investigate the situation. The banana plantations already covered more than 400 acres owned by 30 farmers, the complaint claimed.
