The recent Mid-Year Myanmar Gem Emporium which took place in Nay Pyi Taw from September 16 to 25, saw sales of more than €500 million worth of jade and gemstones, organisers of the event say. However, the sale of gem lots slowed compared with previous exhibitions. This is believed to be largely due to the temporary suspension of extraction during the drawing up of Myanmar’s Gemstone Law, which led to there being few new offerings during the event.
