The oil blocks in the seas of Rivercess County have so far yielded some of the biggest payments from Liberia's oil industry. Two oil companies Chevron and Anadarko committed to pay a total of US$550,000 annually to Rivercess County for oil blocs 10 and 12 as social contribution to the county. Still Rivercess remains one of the poorest counties in the country, with impassable roads, rundown health facilities and schools. Resources in many African countries have proven to be a source of problem- rather than helping with the needed development and improving the lives of citizenry in many impoverished countries on the continent, it is instead creating confusion.
