South Sudan has announced that it is in full control of the oilfields in the troubled Unity State, the scene of fighting between government troops and rebels.The Minister of Petroleum and Mining, Stephen Dhieu Dau told journalists in Juba on Tuesday that the government is now cleaning up damages caused during recent fighting between SPLA-IO and SPLA-Juba forces in the oil fields around Pariang and Rubkona.
The government is in full control of the oilfields in Unity. We are preparing to cut the grass so that bush fire would not affect the facilities. The second step will be the assessment, we have sent operators together with technicians to conduct damage assessments in the facilities in order to plan for resumption of the oil production the minister confirmed.
