Myanmar: US House Backs Measures to Sanction Myanmar's Military, Nudge Gem Sector Reform

The US House of Representatives has approved measures that call for targeted sanctions against more of Myanmar’s military leaders over human rights abuses in Rakhine State and encourage further reform of the country’s murky gemstone industry. The measures, added as amendments to the National Defense Authorization Act by the House in Washington on Wednesday, received strong bipartisan support.
