Sudan/South Sudan/Abyei: South Sudan Abyei Leader Urges Khartoum to Release 2% of Oil Money

The head of the Abyei Administrative Area Chol Deng Alak has called on the Khartoum government to release to the local governemnt a 2% share of oil revenue from the area. The statement comes after reports that the Sudanese government included the Abyei Area in its 2016 budget. Alak told Radio Tamazuj that Abyei area has never received a percentage of the oil revenues as promised in the Comprehensive Peace Agreement since South Sudan declared its independence in 2011.
